Accede is now the organising Centre for the EMS Faculty’s Dynamics of Building a Better Society Programme (DBBS) funded by VLIR. The EMS component’s focus is on ‘Policy Management, Governance and Poverty Alleviation in the Western Cape.’ This is part of the wider VLIR research network and partnership funded by a consortium of Belgian universities. In 2009, the Accede management team involved in VLIR research networks began exploring new initiatives with the Department of Third World Studies in Ghent to begin investigating future North-South-South linkages that are part of the future networks envisaged for long term sustainability. These discussions continue in 2010.
In 2007, ACCEDE was the South African partner in the Project entitled Aids and Democracy in southern Africa, funded by SIDA and the NRF, together with Dr Per Strand (Department of Government, Uppsala University, Sweden). This project has now been completed.
