Research Title:
Gender equality, gender mainstreaming and the empowerment of women in local government.
A case study of the City of Cape Town
My research explores the effectiveness of gender mainstreaming in the City of Cape Town’s current policies and programmes in order to evaluate the gap between Gender Mainstreaming policy and practise. The study further examines the roles and involvement, i.e. of the National Gender Machinery and South African Local Government Association in promoting gender equality at local government. The study also analysis reports such as Performance Management Agreements, Gender Policy, Employment Equity Plan and Workplace Skills Plan, with reference to the case study to establish whether gender is mainstreamed in the City of Cape Town’s policies.
