The Programme on New Forms of Citizenship, funded by the Ford Foundation, began in 2006. Funding was renewed at the end of 2007. At the end of 2009 the Ford Foundation gave Accede a further two year core grant for research, doctoral and postdoctoral research. ACCEDE has joined other networks, such as LOGOLINK and the SA Good Governance Learning Network (GGLN), thereby extending the Centre’s research scope. This includes jointly hosting policy advocacy workshops and training sessions with local government officials as well as with local councillors and ward committee members. ACCEDE formally joined the GGLN in 2009, and was involved in the Pioneers of Participation Policy Dialogue hosted by the Citizenship Development Research Centre (CDRC) and Isandla Institute.
